Here it is...the Carny (1980) of late era Golden Age male erotica. Of course, this film does not feature Jodie Fosters...or any other woman for that matter.

Men of the Midway (1983)

Chris Burns runs away from home after his father (Paul Barresi) tries to sell him for sex. Chris joins a carnival, where Tim Kramer pretty much does what Barresi had in mind (the difference is Dad was gonna sell Chris to nasty old white men, and Kramer sells Chris to hunky young black men!). Fortunately (I guess) for Chris, the carnival owner falls for him, and they "turn the tables" on Kramer in the final scene. Includes on location settings. Also, Jack Strider, Beau Matthews, Toby, Donkey Dan, Jeff Powers, Shelly Williams, Bruce McDonald, Duane MacNuchula

In this newly-restored classic of gay erotica, Paul Baressi tries to hire out his son to please other men. The young man runs away to the circus where he finds his ass up for grabs with every raunchy tent wrangler looking for action.

Here is a unique vintage gay porn film of youth being debased in the gaudy world of carny folks. Chris Burns runs away from home after his father (Paul Baressi) tries to sell him for sex.

Quote:
One of the "artier" gay adult films of the early '80s, Roger Earl's much-discussed Men of the Midway gives us a glimpse into the world of travelling circuses, pre-condom rough trade, and a rare opportunity to see porn director Paul Baressi in front of the camera.

"Roger Earl's conversation-piece classic, Men of the Midway, is a lot like the meretricious milieu in which it is set -- a virtually non-stop, brazen come-on, promsing the sleazy and exotic, that delivers only a semblance of what it advertises, yet which exerts a powerful, lurid curiousity over the customer nonetheless." -- Manshots, December 1990

"The best thing about Men of the Midway isn't the fact that it has a real-life carnival as its backdrop or that it's the first real feature-length talkie for Tim Kramer, but the fact that it attempts to tell a story worht telling. It isn't about lovers, orgies, kink, or sex in public places. It's about jealousy, greed, trust, honesty and revenge.... And its sex trips are varied too. Everything from dildo diddling to a gangbang." -- Studflix

A bit too much plot for some, but in this case, it works, and makes the rough sex even hotter.

Wakefield Poole - Bijou (1972)

Wakefield Poole - Bijou (1972)

Synopsis/Background wrote:
Acclaimed director Wakefield Poole’s second feature, the surreal and trippy Bijou 1972 , set a new standard for explicit cinema when it opened in 1972.

The film concerns a construction worker (Bill Harrison) who witnesses a car accident and pockets the female victim’s purse in which he discovers her invitation to a club named Bijou. There he enters a strange erotic world where dark fantasies becomes reality. A fever dream blending the erotic and the divine in equal parts, Bijou is a psychosexual puzzle that rewards multiple viewings.

Scanned at 2K from the original 16mm elements and fully restored, this new version of Bijou finally allows the film to be seen in all its original visual splendor.

Mubi:
A straight construction worker witnesses a woman being hit by a car in New York City. On a whim, he steals her purse and finds an invitation to a strange club named Bijou. When he sets off to find the club, Harrison plunges into a world of erotic fantasy fulfilment.

review:
It’s no secret that Vinegar Syndrome has quickly become the gold standard in next generation releases of vintage hardcore films that nobody else would touch with a ten inch dildo. Over the past several months, they’ve brought new life to the works of Bob Chinn, Walt Davis, Roberta Findlay and others, bringing the smut of our forefathers to a new generation of flesh-crazed fiends.

But one thing all of the previous Vinegar Syndrome releases have had in common is the rather standard gender relations component – they’re all films intended for a solely heterosexual audience, save for the Walt Davis films, which were clearly just meant for an insane one. The sex depicted in them is virtually all guy/girl with some girl/girl stuff thrown in for good measure. Lacking in their catalog are any releases geared towards all-male eyes, an audience that grew quite large during the golden age of porn and one with several classics that rank among the best of the era’s hardcore cinema.

Jerry Douglas' The Back Row (1972):

As millions flocked to theatres to see The Godfather back in 1972, another landmark film was unspooling in theatres as well. (Sure, they were decidedly smaller and seedier theatres, and had a tendency to reek of bodily fluids, but they were theatres nonetheless.) Garnering nowhere the same amount of press, it was a milestone in its own right. That film is The Back Row. Seen here for the first time in nearly 30 years, this hilarious (and sexy as hell) pre-condom-era rub-your-chub flick is a must for porn fans.

Casey Donovan (Boys in the Sand, The Other Side of Aspen) is featured as a dude cruising NYC's all-male smut theatres looking for love (or at least a good hummer); George Payne is the young "guy from Montana" who catches his eye.

Shot on location (wait until you see the vintage subway scene), this fabulously sleazy flick offers some of the most terrifyingly dated clothes you’ll ever see, a veritable travelogue of now-defunct Times Square porn theatres, truly raunchy tearoom scenarios, a plot-propelling original musical score (whose vocals make Maureen McGovern’s sappy ballad "The Morning After" from the same year’s The Poseidon Adventure seem like punk rock), poppers galore (right here, thank-you-very-much) and enough facials to make any cosmetologist wince.

Amazingly well shot for the time, this first feature from award-winning director Jerry Douglas stands as a textbook example of gay erotic filmmaking. Watch it alone or with friends; it's loads of fun – pun definitely intended.

Arthur J. Bressan Jr. - Pleasure Beach (1983)

Arthur J. Bressan Jr. - Pleasure Beach (1983)

Synopsis: An early 1980s precondom gay sex classic. The tag line was "Where More than the Surf Is Pounding"...and is it ever! Michael Christopher plays an openly gay lifeguard and Johnny Dawes plays a "straight" one who's starting to question is sexuality. Christopher and Dawes were allegedly lovers when this film and Skin Deep, which I put on line a couple years ago, were made, and this seem to add something "extra" to their love scenes. Or maybe they were both just great actors or super horny, who knows? I found this one line a while back and not in great shape. I've improved the primitive sound some ... but sound isn't what you're interested in, is it?
